Long Island legislators are calling for better gun laws and more information about mass shooters.
The move comes after two mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton that took place less than 24 hours apart from each other.

Rep. Peter King of Seaford says that people should focus on why mass shooters become mass shooters.

"Gun regulation is important, so I support it, but even if you have all the gun regulations, you can still have these type of mass murders, so more has to be done," King says. "Are these loners, are these people sitting by themselves, are they angry at the world?"

At the Long Island India Day Parade in Hicksville, Rep. Tom Suozzi of Glen Cove told News 12 that access to guns is a huge problem.

"This is wrecking our country and we have to figure out how we can get ... most of the Republicans in Washington, D.C. to recognize that people are sick and tired of this gun violence," Suozzi said. "And we've got to pass laws that will help this very deep, real problem that exists in our country."

Federal authorities say they are weighing hate crime charges against the El Paso shooter as they investigate whether he wrote online posts saying an influx of Hispanics in the United States will replace aging white voters.

President Donald Trump has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in memory of the victims in both shootings.
