A group of Long Island bikers brought their leather and chrome to Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola to help spread some Easter cheer.
Fifty-five members of the Long Island Harley Riders Club headed to the pediatric unit, where they delivered toys and candy to the young patients who can’t be home for Easter.
“We want them to know that everybody's here for them and we really care for them and they shouldn't be sad that they're not home for the holidays,” said Michele Levine, of the Harley Riders.
The group has been making the trip to Winthrop every year for the past 16 years. They said the best part is meeting the children.
Elizabeth Fernandez, 18, landed in the hospital three days ago with a bad infection. She said a visit from “Biker Bunny” and all the other riders cheered her up.
The bikers said the smiles on the children's faces are the greatest gifts of all.
“We get a lot of satisfaction helping the kids…It's what the holidays are all about,” said John Hachmann.
