Gas prices have dropped to their lowest levels in five years, but New Yorkers, and specifically Long Island residents, are still paying some of the highest prices in the nation.
According to the Lundberg survey, the average price of gas for the entire country is about $1.75, but on Long Island it?s $2.06. It?s drivers in Buffalo though, that are paying the most at $2.19 a gallon, AAA says.
AAA New York?s Robert Sinclair says factors like high demand, business operating costs, living costs as well as transportation costs contribute to Long Island?s high gas prices.
Many Long Island drivers aren?t surprised they may be paying more than people in other states, but aren?t complaining about the prices they?re paying either. Dan Leopold, of Huntington, says he used to pay $130 to fill up his tank, now he pays $68.
