Food pantries across Long Island say there is a shortage of turkeys for Thanksgiving meals.

Pastor Jim Ryan and his team from Lighthouse Mission in Bellport distribute truckloads of food to Long Island residents in need each week. They say their freezer was full of turkeys last year, but that they are currently struggling with Thanksgiving only two weeks away.

Long Island Cares and Island Harvest - both of which run food donation warehouses that serve soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters -- are also putting out the 911 call for more turkey donations.

Island Harvest says it is looking for 6,000 turkeys to distribute to families in need.
