The boys' and girls' fencing teams at Ward Melville are both No. 1, and they have their coaches to thank for it. Jeff and Jennie Salmon have been married for nine years and they're proof that the couple that plays together stays together. The two met at the 1996 Olympics. Jennie Salmon's squad has won 10 straight Long Island Championships, with 10 straight undefeated seasons. Her husband's team has won five straight championships. All in all, the Salmons have won 281 times, and lost just 10 matches in the last 10 years. They've sent 47 fencers to NCAA programs and attained national recognition in magazines such as Sports Illustrated. They say that when there's a disagreement at home, each knows better than to draw their blades.
