The top U.S. commander for the Middle East says the first deployments of new U.S. forces will arrive in Afghanistan "pretty quickly."
It comes just a day after President Donald Trump recommitted the United States to the 16-year-old war.
News 12 spoke with Greg Buckley, who lost his son in the conflict.
"You have these little cockroaches...they're terrorists, and that's who murdered my son. They need to be taken out," he said.
Greg Buckley Jr. served nearly four years as a Marine and was killed just two days before he was to fly home from Afghanistan. His family keeps pictures and letters from him on display. His father says an end to the conflict is long overdue.
"It's enough. I was at the cemetery last week. You look around, you see young men and women that have died. For what?" he said.
President Trump didn't mention specifics in Monday night's address to the nation, but he said the path forward for military forces in Afghanistan means a change in strategy.
"We're not nation-building anymore, we're killing terrorists," said the president.

President Trump's plan could authorize thousands more troops to be sent to Afghanistan.
Buckley says his son saw the horrors of war and paid the ultimate price. He doesn't want his death to be in vain.
"What was the purpose of my son being murdered and losing his life for this country?" asks Buckley.
There are currently more than 8,000 U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan.
