Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone gave a Friday COVID-19 update, including a plan for the Long Island Ducks returning to play this summer.
Briefing Notes:
- Bellone says the Long Island Ducks coming back would be 'a real shot in the arm.' Says the Ducks have come up with a safety plan that they are prepared to submit to the state.
- Games would happen in phase 4 of reopening with 25% capacity. That means about a total capacity of 1,500.
- 'We're very hopeful that this is something that could happen. We need other things to be talking about, and the Ducks being back playing baseball would be a great thing.'
- Fans would not have to wear masks while in their seats because they will be socially distancing.
- Bellone talks about in-person graduations. Cuomo has only allowed drive-thru events, but Bellone is hopeful they will reconsider later in the summer.
- Developing a plan with Suffolk Superintendents Association for what live graduation ceremonies will look like, should they happen. This will also be submitted to the state.
- Bellone talks about small business resources, including small business supply request form on Dept. of Labor website.
