Baseball fans across the Island are in shock Thursday as investigators try to figure out how Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle crashed his plane into a Manhattan high rise.
Lidle and his flight instructor, Tyler Stanger, were killed when the plane hit the building Wednesday. Two people inside the apartment that took a direct hit miraculously made it out alive.
The Westbury-based Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON), operated through the federal government, would have monitored Lidle?s flight but he told airport officials he wouldn?t need it. According to officials, Lidle claimed he?d just be flying around the East River.
Officials add there were no distress calls from Lidle?s plane and no flight plan. Related Information
