Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy called on all schools Thursday to take a stronger stand against cyber bullying.
The problem came to light when a video posted on the Web led police to three North Babylon teens accused of beating up a fourth, younger girl. Many North Babylon High School students admitted to knowing about the online fight sites, including the popular Sickrat.com. Now, educators are expressing serious concerns over this growing trend. The videos feature kids beating up other kids on the streets and in yards. The fights get thousands of Web hits per week.
Levy believes every district should be cracking down on this newer form of bullying by their students. North Babylon Superintendent Dr. Joseph Laria says he is examining whether students who set up or participate in these fights should be suspended.
