Town of Brookhaven residents elected Democrat Mark Lesko as their next supervisor in a special election Tuesday to fill the seat vacated by state Sen. Brian Foley.
Unofficial counts showed Lesko with 55 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Tim Mazzei. Final and official results should be certified within 3 weeks of the election.
Lesko, a former federal prosecutor and a Democrat from East Setauket, is a relative newcomer to Brookhaven politics.
