New legislation introduced this week in the Senate would prevent Long Island residents from having to pay back Superstorm Sandy recovery funds.
The measure is being backed by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and is expected to garner bipartisan support.
It will help Long Islanders who received SBA loans in order to rebuild their homes.
The bill would apply for those who suffered losses starting October 2012, when Sandy hit.
"Many Long Islanders are still working on their recovery almost a decade after Superstorm Sandy struck our communities," says Gillibrand. "Mixed messages from the federal government have caused unnecessary confusion and headaches for homeowners and families already dealing with financial hardship."
