Officials in Suffolk County say young adults will now have to wait until they turn 21 years old to buy cigarettes.
The new law went into effect yesterday and changes the legal age to buy tobacco in Suffolk County.
The law also includes e-cigarettes and liquid nicotine products.
The tobacco age in Nassau County still stands at 19.
Nassau Country Democrats are trying to change the law, but the Republican majority has not supported the effort.
