It's been 40 years since the loss of musical legend Harry Chapin, but his legacy endures - especially at the Long Island Cares Harry Chapin Food Bank.
The food bank was one of Chapin's most important charitable projects and arguably the most successful. The organization distributes 10 million pounds of food annually to help fight food insecurity on the Island.
Chapin was just 38 when he died in a car accident on the Long Island Expressway in Jericho.
The organization that bears his name says there is still work to be done and that Harry would be smiling knowing that work is still being done to make a difference.
Chapin is remembered as a man of the community who had a passion to address the issue of hunger.
