Lawmakers introduce bill to allow dogs back at state beaches, parks on LI
Sen. Monica Martinez and Assembly Member Steve Stern are backing new legislation that would allow pet owners to bring their dogs to state beaches and parks on Long Island.
Currently, dogs are banned from the Island's state parks and beaches with limited exceptions.
The legislation would ban dogs would be restricted from within 100 feet of areas with sensitive or endangered wildlife such as piping plovers.
Dogs would also be required to be up to date on vaccines and on leashes at all times.
