The last significant artifacts from the collapse of the World Trade Center were removed from Hangar 17 at John F. Kennedy International Airport Tuesday.
They include an elevator motor, a parking structure column and a 40,000-pound TV antenna connector from the North Tower.
Hangar 17 has housed more than 2,500 artifacts from the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001.
"It collected burned out firetrucks, crushed ambulances, crushed police cars... in essence - this hanger collected history," says FDNY Chief Joseph Phiefer.
The artifacts are being given to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. It was founded by Frank Siller in honor of his firefighter brother, Stephen Siller, of Rockville Centre.
"He got his gear, put the gear on his back and ran through the Battery Tunnel to the Towers where so many other police officers and firefighters gave up [their] life," says Siller.
The Tunnel to Towers foundation is still deciding on the perfect place to send these pieces.
Officials say other artifacts from the Sept. 11 attacks have now been placed in all 50 states and nearly a dozen countries.
