The power play for presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature will have to wait as the vote for the position has been postponed Tuesday.
Longtime Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) is facing a challenge from fellow Democrat Roger Corbin who has the backing of all nine Republicans and one other Democrat, Lisanne Altmann of Great Neck. Now, Jacobs has filed papers with the Board of Elections to change her party registration to unaffiliated in order to go after the minority leader position currently held by Peter Schmitt (R-Massapequa). Jacobs argues that two renegade Democrats that joined with Republicans should not interfere with the voice of the party.
Schmitt says the 19 members will not be in session to vote until the courts decide on Jacobs? political affiliation.
