Lake Grove stores pushed the commercial angle of the holiday spirit as sales brought last-minute shoppers out to the mall Friday.

Shoppers at the Smith Haven Mall note big savings as Christmas looms only days away and some say they are benefiting from waiting for prices to drop. Store managers say the holiday rush has been similar to last year, but because Christmas falls on a Monday, they are expecting a very busy weekend.

While some customers complain of long lines, others remain focused on the task at hand, gifts. Although they couldn't find gifts to satisfy every palate, they believe their gift cards will bring smiles to friends' and family's faces.
