Today was the first day that the Department of Transportation issued travel lane changes to a major stretch of Route 347 in Hauppauge.
Travel lanes between Brooksite Drive and Route 111 will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes from 6:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. through Oct. 4.
There will also be just one eastbound lane open from Route 111 to Plaisted Avenue.
The closures are due to a $30.5 million project to create a modified boulevard and suburban greenway that will run through a 15-mile stretch of Smithtown, Islip and Brookhaven. It will feature a bike path, garden and additional travel lane in each direction.
