Police: Woman killed in Lake Grove hit-and-run

Police roped off the Lake Grove Diner where dozens of evidence markers were placed on the roadway outside the restaurant.

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday morning in Lake Grove, police say.

Authorities say the woman crossing Nesconset Highway, near Hallock Road, when she was struck and killed by a vehicle traveling eastbound at 6:20 a.m.

The Suffolk County Crime Scene Unit spent hours at Nesconset Highway.

Police roped off the Lake Grove Diner where dozens of evidence markers were placed on the roadway outside the restaurant.

"When I came across the location this morning the victim was lying in the road," said Tom Scroope.

A section of the roadway was closed off to traffic for several hours.

Police were still looking for the driver as of Saturday evening.
