Drivers traveling this Labor Day weekend will enjoy the cheapest gas prices the holiday has seen in more than a decade.
The average national price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.42, the lowest it's been for Labor Day in 11 years. The current average on Long Island is slightly higher at $2.61 per gallon, but that's still about a dollar less than last year.
AAA says it expects 35 million Americans to travel 50 miles or more this Labor Day weekend, marking the largest volume of travelers since 2008.
The Long Island Rail Road was offering 10 extra eastbound trains from Penn Station Friday to accommodate travelers.
