A wealthy Kings Point man offered a large reward Thursday for the return of $500,000 worth of stolen jewelry.
Nassau police said the man, who wishes to remain anonymous out of fear he'll be burglarized again, is offering a $50,000 reward.
"He's a very avid jewelry collector," Det. Sgt. Steve Zeth said. "I believe a lot of this property has sentimental value to him."
Zeth said the man noticed immediately that things were missing from his home after the burglary.
The stolen goods could be available for sale online or anywhere across the U.S., police said. If the jewels are still in Nassau County, however, the story could end up with a happy ending. Sgt. Anthony Repalone said the force has a good relationship with the area's pawn shops.
"They will not hesitate to call us up if they believe what they're receiving is stolen merchandise," Repalone said.
Anyone with information about the stolen jewelry is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
