A 65-year-old organ donor who is biking hundreds of miles to raise awareness for kidney disease stopped in Norwalk today.

Mark Scotch is on a 1,600-mile journey he calls "The Organ Trail." It started on Sept. 19 from Massachusetts following a National Kidney Donation Organization conference and will end in his home state of Wisconsin on Oct 16.

Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling greeted Scotch as he passed through Norwalk.

It was during a trip to Louisiana with his wife that Scotch says he decided he wanted to become an organ donor after he met a man who was on dialysis and needed a kidney transplant.

Scotch joined the National Kidney Registry and soon became a donor himself.

Scotch says the recovery time was quick, and he was able to ride his bike again only after a few short weeks.

The National Kidney Foundation says 13 people die every day while waiting for a kidney transplant.
