The man accused of driving while intoxicated and causing a crash that killed two of his passengers pleaded guilty in court today.
Prosecutors say 32-year-old Kervens Boutin was drunk and high on marijuana as he drove more than 100 mph on the Southern State Parkway last January. He crossed over three lanes of traffic and crashed into a line of trees, killing Blossom Castro and Bryan Rivas. One of the victims was Boutin's cousin, and the other was a friend. Two more people were severely hurt.
Boutin was also injured. His legs were amputated and he faces more surgeries in the coming months.
Boutin accepted a deal to plead guilty to several felonies, including aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated operation of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
He is expected to be sentenced to two to six years in prison. He will be formally sentenced at a later date due to an upcoming surgery.
In court today, his lawyer read a statement saying that Boutin accepts responsibility and deeply regrets causing the horrific crash.
