The Kent Animal Shelter has begun work on a new kennel and isolation facility in Calverton.

Elected officials and shelter employees broke ground on the new project, which will replace a previous 50-year-old facility.

Kent Animal Shelter is a no-kill shelter that provides discounted veterinary services.

Officials say the new space will be an added tool in that mission.
