'Keep the kids safe.' Rockland BOCES, law enforcement officials discuss school safety plans and improvements

All of Rockland County's school districts and BOCES met with law enforcement officials and the FBI to discuss school safety plans.
Rockland BOCES organized the daylong active shooter preparedness session at the fire training center in Pomona.
"This is a great collaboration. We can work together now. We're talking about things that we need to get better at, and we're working on things that are going to keep the kids safe,” says Robert VanCura, the undersheriff of the Rockland County Sheriff's Office.
The group of 125 people spoke for hours about different scenarios and their responses.
"I think we're fortunate that we live in a very, very small county. And that we are all interconnected and committed to supporting one another,” says Amy Albers, of the Rockland BOCES.
Bob Stephan, of the Contingency Management Consulting Group, has spent years leading these types of sessions on emergency management. He says this one focused on response and recovery and things that need improvement.
"I want to say I've never been to a jurisdiction where I've seen this amount of preparedness,” Stephan says.
