If you’re looking for a fun way to kick off the unofficial start of summer, you don’t need to travel far from home.

The Kartrite Resort and Indoor Waterpark in Monticello is the Hudson Valley's newest destination location.

News 12 got a firsthand look at the fun on Friday and spoke with staff about the amenities.

“The Kartrite Resort and Indoor Waterpark is an oasis in your backyard," said Tayla Regan, director of marketing and sales. "You don’t have to go far, and you don’t have to get on a plane.”

The resort and waterpark is in Sullivan County and a few minutes’ drive from pretty much anywhere in the Hudson Valley.

“One of our most popular attractions is the Flo Rider - a surf simulator. It's everyone's favorite. It's the first thing we put on the line when you get here," said Regan. "Our feature slide is the Nor'easter, which is a four-person slide to go up and then you go back down. It's a giant side and really cool."

The resort boasts 324 hotel rooms, seven bars and eateries, an arcade, indoor and outdoor pools and 6 miles of hiking trails on the grounds.

“There’s really something for every age," said Regan. "If you don't want to leave, you don't have to. We have s'mores outside that you can roast on the fire with your family, a sweet shoppe, and a daily activity schedule for the kids and families."

The casino at Resorts World Catskills is also a mile away. On summer weekends, a kids club babysitting service is available during evenings for three hours.

“There’s always something going on here – ropes course, laser tag, bowling. It’s endless. You can spend weeks," said Regan.

Day passes and half-day passes are also available.

Kartrite is kicking off the unofficial start of summer on Sunday with a Memorial Day weekend barbecue and DJ.
