Jurors wrapped up the second day of deliberations Thursday in the trial of a Miller Place black man accused of killing an unarmed white teen.
Investigators say John White fatally shot 17-year-old Daniel Cicciaro in August of 2006. White claims the teen and his friends came to his home with the intent of harming his son. The jury is deciding between a manslaughter felony charge and the charge of criminally negligent homicide, a misdemeanor.
While in deliberations, the jurors asked the judge for the legal definitions of a ?dwelling? and ?reckless endangerment.? Assistant District Attorney James Chalifoux says one can?t read into what a jury is thinking, even when such requests are made.
The jury also asked for five different pieces of testimony to be read back, which the judge told them would take hours to prepare. The jurors were sent home early and will return to court Friday to continue with deliberations.
