Jurors convicted Edgar Sanchez Monday of brutally murdering his girlfriend and dumping her body in Sands Point last year.

Prosecutors say Sanchez, 34, and 24-year-old victim Elizabeth Parisi, of Mastic, were in an extremely abusive relationship. They say Sanchez beat Parisi to death before dumping her naked body in the affluent North Shore community. Sentencing is scheduled for January 3, when Sanchez faces 25 years to life in prison.

Parisi's mother believes the jury made the right decision. She says her daughter's death should show women in abusive relationships they need to seek help before it is too late.
