NYPD: Several shot in the Bronx and Brooklyn during violent holiday weekend: The holiday weekend took a violent turn as several shootings were reported across the city. Police say there were several fatal shootings in the Bronx and Brooklyn Sunday. Police says the shootings happened just hours apart and one block away from one another in Claremont Sunday night. They say three people were shot around 9 p.m. Of those three, two were killed.
Yonkers fire displaces 5 families, believed to have been sparked by illegal fireworksThe Red Cross is helping five Yonkers families with food and temporary shelter after a fire ravaged an apartment building on Buena Vista Avenue early Sunday morning. Flames razed the multi-family building in a fire that was apparently sparked by illegal fireworks."That's what everyone is saying right now," said building owner Dena Alto.
Police receive Freehold Raceway Mall bomb threat; second bomb threat at mall in 3 days: Police say they received a call from someone claiming there was a bomb at the Freehold Raceway Mall on Route 9 in Freehold. According to police, they received a transferred phone call Sunday around 9 p.m. from the neighboring Marlboro Police Department with a person on the line claiming that there was a bomb at the mall.
Hundreds rally in Wantagh in show of support for law enforcementAround 1,000 people rallied in support of law enforcement officers in Wantagh Sunday. The group gathered at Wantagh High School. They marched to the train station carrying American flags, pro-police flags and signs. The demonstrators were escorted by the Nassau County Police Department.
Fire officials: 60 people displaced following fire at PT Barnum Apartments: Fire officials say 60 people were displaced following a fire at the PT Barnum Apartments in Bridgeport on the Fourth of July. The fire broke out around 8:45 p.m. No injuries were reported.Witnesses say that moments before the fire began, fireworks landed on the roof of the building.
