A judge ruled Monday that Suffolk?s controversial worker status bill was illegally brought to the floor of the legislature for a vote last month.
The bill, which passed the legislature in May, requires contractors to verify their employees? legal status. Leg. Ricardo Montano (D-Central Islip) sued, claiming the bill should never have been released to the full legislature. The judge agreed and the full legislature was granted a stay on the ruling.
Montano?s attorney says the law is still in effect until lawmakers decide if they want to appeal. Leg. Brian Beedenbender (D-Centereach) says the Legislature is expected to meet in executive session June 10 to make a decision.
Beedenbender calls the judge?s decision ?completely bizarre,? while Montano says Beeenbender is acting like a ?spoiled little brat? and does not know about procedure.
