Following a federal court ruling Tuesday, Chrysler is terminating nearly 800 of its franchises across the country including four on Long Island.
A bankruptcy judge approved Chrysler's plan to shed the dealerships. More than 25 attorneys representing hundreds of dealers from across the country argued in court that little would be gained by terminating the franchises, while Chrysler maintained that the move is a necessary part of its plan to cut costs and quickly emerge from Chapter 11.
"It's a little numbing,? says Jerry Brouschart, general manger of ABC Motors in Valley Stream. His dealership is one of those no longer allowed to sell Chrysler automobiles. ?But I'm an automobile person. I?ve done this all my life so I'm just gonna have to fight through it.?
Broschart says he might have to do business a little differently, but will continue to sell Chryslers by getting inventory from other dealerships. He says he will simply act as an agent between the customer and a still-intact dealership.
Besides Brouschart?s dealership, sellers in Lindenhurst, Port Jefferson Station and Riverhead are also affected by the ruling.
