A judge once again delayed sentencing for a former Oyster Bay official who pleaded guilty to tax evasion, saying that he was not satisfied with the answers to questions he proposed to the official and the town.
Former Commissioner of Planning and Development Frederick Ippolito, 77, of Syosset, was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday for his failure to report more than $2 million he had received from a paving company while working for the town.
U.S. District Judge Leonard Wexler first put off the sentencing back in July, saying he had more questions for Oyster Bay officials and for Ippolito. He said he was not satisfied with the answers he received.
Ippolito told the court he had filed paperwork with Oyster Bay regarding the $2 million, but town officials deny that claim. At the end of Tuesday's session, Wexler said, "Who did he file with? I have no idea. Nobody tells me."
Wexler said regardless of the answers he gets, he is planning to sentence Ippolito to more than the recommended 18- to 24-month prison sentence.
Town of Oyster Bay officials did not respond to News 12's request for comment regarding Judge Wexler's remarks.
Ippolito's new sentencing date is Sept. 28.
