A judge denied a request Monday to lower bail for a teen accused of plotting a Columbine-style plot at Connetquot High School.
Michael McDonough, 17, was ordered held on $25,000 bail Friday. The teen's attorney asked the judge to reduce that amount in a Central Islip courtroom. McDonough's parents appeared emotionally drained while walking into the hearing.
McDonough allegedly conspired to kill students and staffers at the high school. An unnamed 15-year-old boy who allegedly planned the attack with McDonough is undergoing a two-week medical evaluation.
Police say the 15-year-old dropped a notebook containing details of the plan in a McDonald's parking lot where both teens worked. The suspects allegedly planned to carry out their plan next April on the anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings that killed 13 people in Colorado.
Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer read experts from the notebook. "I want to kill so many people in the war zone," Dormer said. "This will go down in history."
Meanwhile, Dormer and Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy said charges against the teens could soon be upgraded. "This wasn't the case of just two kids blowing off steam, apparently," Levy said. The 15-year-old could end up being charged as an adult, Dormer said.
