Jon Stewart hosted an event in New York City Saturday to get the word out about health care coverage for Sept. 11 first responders.
The former "Daily Show" host has been a champion of causes related to Sept. 11 responders.
During an event streamed on Facebook Live, Stewart urged more than 30,000 first responders to register for the Zadroga Act, which pays for medical treatment for Sept. 11 first responders.
First responders from Long Island viewed the event on Facebook at a watch party gathering in Islandia.
Detective Christopher O'Connor was there when the first plane hit the twin towers and for months provided security in the area. He says that led to a slew of health problems, including three sinus surgeries.
"Asthma started coming on, my sinuses started coming on," says O'Connor.
O'Connor says the Zadroga Act helped him cover hundreds of thousands in medical bills. He says Stewart's event was very informative.
"If we can save one life and save a group of lives it would be great," says event organizer Anthony Flammia, of the Feal Good Foundation.
