The Stony Brook University football team attributes their recent success to a special member of their sideline crew.
Joey Feminella, 14, of West Islip, has assisted the Seawolves through four straight conference titles. He was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer, at age 5, and immediately underwent surgery to remove the tumor.
Following three years of radiation and chemotherapy, Joey was named honorary captain by the Seawolves in 2008. Thanks to the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, which matches sick children with college teams, Joey has been able to attend every practice and game with his equipment in tow.
More than 340 children with brain tumors across the U.S. have also benefited from the program since it began in 2005.
