Parents in the Jericho School District rallied Saturday after they say Nassau County approved a homeless shelter in their community without their knowledge.
Organizers say developers plan to turn a local hotel into an 80-unit homeless shelter right near the school. They say they're completely in the dark and are worried for their children's safety.
The Department of Social Services has said the number of homeless individuals in the county has increased by about 20% since the start of the pandemic.
