James Tagart facing DWI charges in fatal Levittown crash

The man accused in a fatal accident that shut down Hempstead Turnpike for hours yesterday will face a judge on DWI charges.
Police say James Tagart, of Levittown, was driving drunk at 6 a.m. yesterday when he ran down and killed an elderly man.
The victim has been identified as Robert Chapman, 81, who was crossing Hempstead Turnpike when he was struck.
The accident happened just west of Gardiners Avenue and closed down Hempstead Turnpike for hours.
