The Town of Babylon is constructing a memorial to remember those who have died from overdoses.
The memorial will be built at Tanner Park in Copiague as a place for loved ones of overdose victims to grieve together.
Karen Pike-Schlitt’s son battled an opioid addiction and died of an overdose in 2018. She is hopeful the memorial will break the stigma around those battling addiction.
"They're going to cry together, they're going to share their stories, so it will be a healing process," Pike-Schlitt says.
