Police: 1 man killed, another injured in workplace accident at MacArthur Airport

Police say Michael Jakob was working on runway lights when he was electrocuted.

A worker was killed and another person was injured Wednesday in a workplace accident at MacArthur Airport, police say.
News 12 is told the accident happened just before 3 p.m.
Police say Michael Jakob was working on runway lights when he was electrocuted. Jakob, 51, of Bohemia was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say a second employee, Gino Fiermont, was shocked while attempting to help Jakob. Fiermonte, 49, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.
Town officials and staff say they are deeply saddened by this tragic accident . Their thoughts are with the families impacted by the tragedy. Grief counselors will be at the airport Thursday.
