Islip Town Board approves Islip Pines plan
The Islip Town Board voted unanimously to approve a major development plan that supporters say will bring jobs, revenue and housing.
The Islip Pines development project includes building residential apartments, office space, restaurants, a movie theatre and six athletic fields in Holbrook.
Some residents like the idea, but others say the Islip Pines development project will destroy downtown Sayville, which is a short distance away.
The developer, Serota Properties, maintains that the project will generate 3,000 jobs and nearly $10 million in tax revenues. The Sachem School District is slated to receive $6 million.
