Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan warned residents Friday to immediately prepare for a future hurricane.
Nolan joined with emergency and transportation officials at MacArthur Airport and urged early preparations over last-minute scrambling. Nolan said the town has been stocking hurricane supplies and running emergency drills.
The supervisor asked residents to gather emergency kits and make evacuation plans with family members because waiting until a hurricane is on its way would be too late.
MacArthur Airport was chosen for the news conference because it would be used as a receiving site for supplies and the National Guard if a hurricane were to strike.
