The town of Islip has announced a compromise with boaters upset over changes to the boat slip process at Atlantique Marina on Fire Island.
The boaters were upset that fees were going up, and that some of the larger boat slips were going to be rented out for the entire season. The town now says there will be no seasonal slip rentals and that only 20 of the slips can be reserved online ahead of time, by town residents only.
The fees are still going up, but the town says the new fees now also include the electric.
"We all got together as a community, we went to Town Hall and we were very lucky the people at Town Hall listened to us," says Diane Setter, of Oakdale.
