The New York Islanders beat the Washington Capitals 4-1 Wednesday to win Game 1 of their playoff matchup.
Brock Nelson scored two goals - one to open scoring in the first period and an empty-net goal to seal the victory in the final minutes.
Prior to the game, both John Tavares and Kyle Okposo told News 12 Long Island that they don't pay attention to any underdog labels people may be putting on the team.
"We're gonna go out and just play hard," said Tavares.
The last time the Isles faced the Caps in the playoffs was 1993, when Dale Hunter infamously injured Islanders star Pierre Turgeon with a violent hit following a goal.
Game 2 is Friday at 7 p.m.
