A political consultant says some GOP candidates may take a bit of a hit in next month's election due to the possible impeachment of President Donald Trump.
County and town officials are on the ballot for this upcoming election.
"Right now, the national polls are not favoring Trump, as far as independent moderates are concerned. Those are the swing voters. Those are the people who split their ticket," said political consultant Mike Dawidziak.
In 1972, Democrat Bill Bianchi just barely claimed victory for state Assembly at a time when Republicans dominated on Long Island. When Bianchi ran for re-election two years later, Republican President Richard Nixon was facing impeachment, and the election results were dramatically different.
"We looked at the numbers – about a third of the Republicans didn't vote," Bianchi told News 12.
Elections on Long Island will be held on Nov. 5.
