Police are investigating an Island Park shooting in which one person was killed and another injured Thursday.
According to police, a fight broke out around 12:30 a.m. in a bar on Long Beach Road. The altercation then spilled out onto the streets, leading to the shooting death of 24-year-old Cesar Ticlayauri, of Island Park, at the corner of Parma and Sagamore roads, police said. Another man was shot and injured, but police said they're not releasing his name due to the sensitivity of the investigation. The gunmen escaped unseen, police said.
U.S. Marine James Torborg heard shots and ran out to help.
"He breathed like maybe for the first minute and I was trying to calm him down," Torborg said. "But then his eyes just rolled back and I tried to perform CPR, but it didn't work."
Police are asking anyone with information on the case to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. Investigators said a reward is being offered and that all informants will remain anonymous.
