An Island Park man accused of yelling at a praying 18-year-old has been charged with aggravated harassment, according to police.

Detectives say the victim retrieved a prayer mat from his car after delivering food to a home on Wednesday. As he began to pray, a neighboring resident started yelling derogatory terms and made a violent threat against him.

Police later identified the resident as 67-year-old Thomas McGarry and took him into custody.

Authorities say he has been issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 24.
