Island Harvest Food Bank is growing more diverse fruits and vegetables on its local farm to meet the needs of the community.
"We are growing culturally sensitive foods that we have learned from many of the neighbors we serve on Long Island," says Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest.
In addition to traditional produce, the Brentwood farm grows tomatillo, jalapeno, collards, okra as well as a number of cultural produces from Latin and Caribbean countries.
"This is benefiting the community," explains a recipient from Wyandanch.
Island Harvest is also using new methods of farming to grow more fruits and vegetables.
