An injured Iraq War veteran was presented with a “smart home” Tuesday in Melville, thanks to help from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Cpl. Christopher Levi lost his legs in March 2008 after an IED struck the armored Humvee in which he was traveling.
The house, designed and built by Long Islanders who donated thousands of dollars in time and money, is loaded with high-tech innovations to help Levi be more independent.
“If I was actually able to conceive all the awesomeness of today, I would just fall over. My brain would stop working,” said Levi.
Levi recently participated in the Tunnel to Towers 5K race, which raises hundreds of thousands of dollars in order to continue building new homes for other first responders and veterans.
“I don't feel I deserve any of it, but I do hope to earn it,” he said.
Levi’s home was the Tunnel to Towers Foundations 75th donated home.
