Long Islanders heading out Sunday morning found slick driving conditions in many spots.
Yesterday's snowfall coupled with the sub-freezing temperatures were a recipe for black ice on some roadways.
In Melville, a car carrying a mother and four children skidded off of Bagatelle Road and crashed into a tree. The five were hospitalized with minor injuries, according to fire officials.
Drivers were being urged to use caution. High temperatures topping out only in the teens Sunday could help keep the roads icy.
