An immigrant activist says ICE activity on Long Island has been documented every day so far in November.
Ahmad Perez, the founder of Islip Forward, told News 12 that this is the first time he’s seen that type of daily pattern. Perez and other volunteers work to track and verify reported ICE sightings across Long Island. He said that this year, there have been 222 confirmed sightings.
In Roosevelt, News 12 has learned a second high school student in the district has been detained by ICE.
Superintendent Dr. Shawn Wightman said the student “has been a respectful and dedicated member of our school community, and we are hopeful that he will be given the opportunity to complete his high school education...Every young person deserves the chance to learn from mistakes and grow into a responsible, contributing member of society.”
News 12 reached out to ICE for a comment but did not hear back.
Since returning to office in January, President Donald Trump has pursued a government-wide immigration crackdown that has involved tightening rules on foreigners being let into the country and those already in it.
